Name: Borghildur Indriðadóttir

Medium: Photography and installation performance

Censored By: Instagram & Facebook

When were you censored?: 2018

Was there notification of removal and, if so, what was the reason given?: My private profile was at the time edited and the was what categorised as “explicit content” and as a result, was removed along with my whole friends list on Facebook. The partner organisation’s Facebook page was suspended for posting a photo in a Facebook

Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?: There was no way for me to appeal, I tried many different ways without reaching through to Facebook

What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you? Please give details.: The promotional plan for the exhibition came to a halt; including the online existence of the show was wiped out from the channels that censored my art. It felt and still personally feels, very absurd.

Other Comments: Demoncrazy depicts strong young women standing in front of artworks of older men in power positions, they all look straight into the camera. The photo-series is accompanied with the performance part, walking from the Icelandic Parliament to the Reykjavík Art Museum. I hope to continue with the same outline of my work to other cities and that my work will not be censored.
