Was there notification of removal? If so, what was the reason given?

Against Community Guidelines on violence or threat of violence.

Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?

Yes. However, Instagram has repeatedly removed my portrait of Donald Trump for reasons that it promotes hate and violence. The reason for creating this artwork is in reaction to Donald Trump promoting violence and hate to far right racist groups. I feel he has given them permission to use physical violence and hate slurs towards people in our communities and through social media platforms. Donald Trump has ignited fear and caused extreme damage to our communities and our democracy.

What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you?

A threat to limit access or possible suspension.

This painting is titled “Nuisance”. It was painted in 2016 right before the presidential election and displayed in two gallery exhibitions. Before the 2016 election, Instagram allowed the post to stay on my feed. After Donald Trump was elected by the electoral college, I attempted to repost my art work three different times. My work was removed after all three attempts.
