Name: Jeff Troy

Medium: Digital Art

Censored By: Instagram

When were you censored?: October 16, 2019

Was there notification of removal and, if so, what was the reason given?: Notification was given immediately.Against community guidelines

Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?: I was given the opportunity to appeal, but I made some assumptions about shadowbanning and decided to censor and repost instead.

What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you? Please give details.: Collaborations like this are a great way for emerging artists to get noticed, but this experience and subsequent shadowbanning had the opposite effect, and made me timid about participating in similar projects for fear of hurting my account.

Other Comments: Collaboration with model @secrets_drawn on Instagram

I know that each time I have a post taken down, my work becomes invisible under discovery and hashtag pages.Even if posts are reinstated, this action is still taken automatically. And since the platform insists shadowbanning doesn’t exist, how can we appeal?I love collaboration, it’s one of the unique things about creating art through social media.By censoring art displayed in these collaborations, or by blocking even the name of collaborative projects from being discovered (#Collab69, an ongoing international artist collective was invisible in hashtags for almost a year – most of us have stopped using it altogether)
