Name: Río PollyKrac

Medium: Freelance/ visual artist

Censored By: Vimeo, Instagram, Facebook

When were you censored?: In 2012, after an arbitrary detention when I was put in jail, my art become viral on social media and also mass media. However since that year, I noticed that my posts on Facebook were removed. In 2015, I started the ‘¡Qué Vulvaridad! Exposición Fotográfica’ (What Vulvarity, Photographic Exhibition), a project where I take photos of vulvas. We started to get banned by Facebook and Instagram; even those that respected company’s terms and conditions.Since that moment, every account that is related to fan page of ‘Qué Vulvaridad!’ or ‘Polly Krac’ is blocked. They do not specify why they have blocked these accounts. The same goes for my art on Vimeo where I do not have an opportunity to appeal nor receive back my material.

Was there notification of removal and, if so, what was the reason given?: At first, there was some notification of removal, however recently I simply get suspended for months or permanently.

Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?: Sometimes I was able to appeal but it never got my content reinstated. On other occasions, I didn’t have the opportunity to appeal.

What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you? Please give details.: The main consequence is the invisibility of my work. When these platforms ban my content, I question the hetero-patriarchal, capitalist systems, sexuality and our territories. These platforms are making a clear statement that they don’t want us free thinkers on it; they are holding up something that’s against freedom and free knowledge for us all.

Other Comments: I work with the body and the power of reappropriationof this first territory, I work with photography and video, doing nude art and pornography.
