Name: Reuben Negron

Email: studio.negron@gmail.com

Medium: watercolor

Censored By: Instagram

When were you censored?: May-20

Was there notification of removal and, if so, what was the reason given?: I was told it was deleted because it “violated Community Standards.”

Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?: I was given the option to have the deletion reviewed by Instagram staff but as with all other instances when my work has been deleted, there is no further communication between myself or Instagram. At this time the post has been deleted with no evidence of it ever being reinstated.

What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you? Please give details.: I originally posted this image to promote the group show it is currently in. As a result, I have not been able to successfully promote the show for the gallery or make my followers aware of its existence through direct means.

Other Comments: The censorship of artwork hampers the artist’s voice and works to undermine their career. In a world where so much business is conducted online, social media’s power of what is seen and what is deleted directly affects the livelihood of working artists everywhere.
