Artist: Rose Freymuth-Frazier
Medium: Oil on linen
Censored by: Instagram and Facebook
Date of censorship: July 2018 – my entire account was deactivated.
Was there notification of removal? If so, what was the reason given?
Against community standards
Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?
No. What was so unnerving when my Instagram account deactivated was my inability to contact a real human at Instagram.
What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you?
I had to start all over rebuilding my following. I am almost back to the number I had when it was deactivated. It was a huge chore but I saw no other option.
The fear that my account will be deactivated again still lingers and at times impacts my decision making when posting images of my work. This fear is not good for freedom of expression or the arts.
