Artist: Savannah Spirit

Medium: Photography

Censored by: Instagram multiple times and facebook

Date of censorship: September 9th 2020. Facebook, 2011 account taken down as well as multiple times. They would punish my account saying I couldn’t post for 30 days. It got to the point it was constant so I deleted my facebook account. Instagram, 2015-2020 account taken down multiple times and still having content deleted. I’m also shadowbanned.

Was there notification of removal? If so was a reason given?

Only notifications of removal when post is removed not the actual profile. The only reason given is that it goes against community standards.

Was there the opportunity to appeal? If so, did you appeal and what was the response?

Yes on my instagram profile & heard nothing. 2 days later I couldn’t log into my account.

What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you?

My account was deleted and I rely on my followers as potential income for my art and products related to my art. I blame instagram for effectively taking away my ability to make an income especially during the pandemic.

What was the response?

None, account deleted.

Free speech and the artistic photographic nude are still issues on social media outlets. Facebook and Instagram, especially instagram needs to stop threatening artists and other with account deletion. They should be working with artists to implement a better system.
