Spencer Tunick
Medium: Photography and Installation
Censored by: Instagram
When?: September, 2018
Was there notification of removal and, if so, what was the reason given?: “Your post has been deleted we removed your post because it doesn’t follow our guidelines again, your account may be restricted or disabled.”
Was there the opportunity to appeal? I don’t think so, I would have appealed if I saw a place to appeal.
What, if any, were the consequences of the removal for you? I wanted to exhibit the Installation photograph I recently made as part of the Bodo Biennale in Bodo, Norway on my Instagram. I self-censored the photograph to meet Instagram’s rules for it not to be removed, but the photograph was still deleted and my entire account was threatened with deletion.
Other Comments: For artists to be threatened with disablement of their entire account, when they are properly self-censoring their images, is maddening.
